It's how you finish amongst the competitors running for Grand national points. If there were 3 vehicles that weren't hooking for points in front of the 5th place tractor, then that tractor will get points as if they finished in 2nd.
Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds completely ridiculous IMO. Whats ridiculous? Why should someone who didn't buy a GN license get GN points? That seems to be what you advocating. What I'm advocating Michael, is getting 4th place points if you finish 4th. Why should a GN puller get rewarded for getting beat by regional guys? In that scenario the 4th place puller who got beat by 2 Regional guys was the 2nd place puller among those with a GN license, therefore earns 2nd place GN points.
In today's competitive environment, the "level" of your license does not dictate how good a vehicle is. Pick any class and there are examples: Writsel's come right to mind! There are many regional licensed vehicles that can and are competitive on the grand national level. Meaning that if certain regional competitors show up at a GN event, they are going to be at the top. The level of one's license is determined by the competitors specific personal ambitions, aspirations, time constraints, enthusiasm, etc.
Hence, a GN competitor should not be penalized by losing to a regional vehicle and vice versa--a GN licensed vehicle competing at a regional event. JW Reply Quote.
How it used to be August 04, AM. Used to be you bought a license and collected points wherever you ran.
That's how it should be. Used to have guys win RN and GN titles in the same year. With numbers being down everywhere, might help out if I collect points wherever I go. How it should be August 04, PM.
All very true. The other problem with NTPA points is, that in the large classes, everyone placing 16th and lower all get 15 points. The goal of the vehicle is to be the strongest machine and be the best driver. This motorsport is not about speed but rather distance. These modified farm tractors and trucks pull a metal sled down a 30 foot wide by a foot long track.
The sled contains a box that is filled with weight which is mechanically winched forward as the sled is pulled down the track. As the weight box moves the load becomes heavier and heavier which causes the vehicle to lose momentum. The truck or tractor who pulls the sled the furthest distance is the winner.
The tractors and trucks may look like standard-issue farm equipment but you will not see these vehicles out pulling a plow or wagon. Tractor and truck pulling is a sport based on horsepower and torque, this means that the engines must be specially modified to generate the greatest amount of power possible.
